Three teams the Red Hots the Kool Kats and the Whippersnappers battle it out against each other all the while carrying on conversation and catching up with one another. It s a new program at the commission on aging and one that s been received very well. It s just wonderful we usually have a good group of people said Lynette Seiler who coordinates the program. It s mainly important because it stimulates seniors in another way physically. They can come out have some fun and even get some exercise. You always see them laughing and socializing. And competing. Jody Daniels captain of the Red Hots led all scorers with a in the first game. Her partner Irene Andrews finished second overall with a . They didn t come to lose. It sure beats being bored said Daniels who admitted thinking about purchasing a system of her own after finding out how fun they actually are. It s better than just sitting and watching television. But really it s just something to do since I lost my husband. The Kool Kats might not have had a great day score wise but that didn t matter. Playing is fun but no matter the age so is hanging out with your friends. Once I learned how to do the controls right that made it easier than regular bowling. The Ionia County Commission on Aging hosted a practice three weeks ago to verse all the seniors on the controls and the games. But were it not for the donation of the gaming system and a television from the Ionia Rotary Club none of this would have been possible. They scoured the Internet after Thanksgiving for a Nintendo Wii and finally purchased one on eBay and bought a television from Best Buy. We were looking at dispersing some funds and this was an idea that came to mind. They all thought it was a great idea. Now that it s come to fruition seniors are left to reap the benefits. They ve already began exploring other Wii games including Wii Baseball and Wii Golf. Now they said they just want more people to play against. Because only women have signed up so far they even offered a challenge to the male senior citizens out there.
